The First Years Hands-Free Gate

The First Years Hands Free Gate, because of its "Knee Knocker" Mechanism, can do exactly what the name applies and can be opened without using your hands. This, as I'm sure you can guess, is a fantastic feature for any parent occupied with their little ones and any necessities as well.

To use this feature you simply have to press on the peddle and bump your knee against the "knee plate" on the gate. To shut the gate it's just as easy, just slightly nudge and the gate will automatically close with a click sound, ensuring peace of mind that the gate is closed before you carry on with your daily activities.

The gate itself can be moved in either direction because of the unique hinges attached and can be easily used by adults but hard for children, again "First Years" pride themselves on designing their products around safety and peace of mind for all parents. The bars on the first years hands free gate are designed to prevent accidents and deter children from climbing by spacing the bars adequately apart, this also leaves enough spacing for a clearer view from either side. Our 15 month old daughter knows how to open the first years gate but because of the pressure that has to be applied, we are always safe in the knowledge that she will not be able to open it herself. We just had to make extra sure that the top was tightly secure first, then there is no chance of a toddler getting through by themselves.

Able to fit in standard doorframes (29" to 34" wide), the all-metal safety gate is a pressure-mount device. Just twist the adjustable bolts at each of the four corners to get a proper, secure fit in your doorways. (If you have wider than standard doors, The First Years sells extension kits separately that can accommodate up to 44-inch wide openings.) It should be noted that this safety gate can be a little unsteady when used at the outer limits of its range, so you may want to consider an extension kit even if using in a standard doorway.

The Gate itself uses a pressure feature so as to not damage your walls whilst installing the system, and it is a breeze to set up straight out of the box. Overall the first years hands free gate is a quality product with a quality design, and most importantly is completely safe a and secure for your peace of mind, couple that with the fact that it is a hands free system and you have got yourself a really great product on your hands.

There is just one more thing we feel that must be mentioned. The first years hands free gate will fit into openings of between 29" to 34" so if the opening in your hallway is a lot wider then you may need to purchase an extension which can be added to your order at Amazon.com for an extra charge. These extensions are designed specifically for the first years hands free gate and can be easily applied.

Whatever you decide, we recommend popping over to Amazon to read some more reviews by parents who are already using this gate in their homes. Have yourself a wonderful day.
