When your baby was born he might have been a big boy or he may just have been a little peanut. Our first was a just a little thing, our second considerably larger. When we went on the hunt for our first strollers we had to consider the needs of both. This is not because we knew how large or small our children would be, but because we precisely did not know how big or small they would be.
The truth is nobody knows what their child is going to turn out like! Oh sure, you can guess based on the size of the parents, but this is far from an exact science. Quite the contrary, my little dude is growing like a weed and apparently destined to be well over 6 feet tall, but I'm nowhere near that. And in terms of weight, our lightest at birth weight is now the heaviest by growth curves, there's just no way to be sure.
The point is that when you go out to select a new stroller, consider that your children may very well be larger than you plan or intend. It's smart to take into account the possibilities and save yourself the pain later. There are some basic steps you can follow to future proof your choices.
The first thing to consider is what is the stroller frame made from? In a lot of cases it's or a cheap white metal alloy of some kind. The problem with this is it tends to get brittle, flake and eventually just plain fail. It doesn't necessarily take very many tosses in and out of the car for this to happen. But that's not may main point. My main point is it may not even last through to your child's heaviest stroller bound weight, which is typically 40 to 45 pounds. So look for an aluminum frame. It won't usually be the cheapest choice, but it will last longer and will almost certainly carry a heavier child.
This leads me to my next point. Don't cheap out. Like all things you are better to spend a little more money once then to spend it again and again. This is your child's ride and you are going to have it for several years. This is not a place to be cheap. Savvy, yes. Get the best possible deal on the best possible stroller. But buy wisely, not the cheapest offshore thing you can find.
If you follow these simple rules your stroller choice will last you through all of your children.
